Espace Maurice was an apartment-gallery located in Montreal’s Gay Village, active from 2021 to 2025. It was founded by performance artist and curator Marie Ségolène C. Brault.

Named in honor of jewelry designer, artist, and art therapist Maurice Brault, the space was dedicated to presenting the work of emerging and self-taught artists from both local and international contexts. During its four years of activity, Espace Maurice hosted on-site exhibitions, collaborated on off-site projects in Montreal and New York, and contributed to the production and distribution of artist publications—including The Triumph of the Lonely Place by Genevieve Goffman, co-published with Inpatient Press.

In 2023, the gallery organized a two-week artist residency in Youngstown, Ohio, which culminated in an exhibition and accompanying publication. A second edition of this collaboration with artist and community organizer Rocco Sait is forthcoming, continuing the spirit of the gallery beyond its physical space.

Throughout its run, Espace Maurice offered a dynamic platform for solo and group exhibitions and was featured in a variety of print and digital publications, including Le Devoir, Peripheral Review, C Magazine, Whitehot Magazine, Public Parking, Pin-Up Magazine, Art Viewer, The Page, and the Contemporary Art Library.

Though the physical gallery space is currently dormant, Espace Maurice remains an evolving project. Its spirit continues through publications, ongoing collaborations, and the possibility of future temporary exhibitions, residencies, and off-site programming. The initiative endures as a platform for experimentation, community-building, and the support of emerging artistic practices.
